‘Sad Studs’: A Parody Song PSA About Gays Giving Blood

Remember how, after three decades of HIV, the FDA decided to finally lift the ban on gay blood donations late last year? Except, in a cruel twist, they maintained that they’d only take blood from admitted homos if they hadn’t had any homo sex in the last year.

It remains a stupid policy, and has nothing to do with keeping the blood supply “safe,” as they claim, since they test it all anyway — and since HIV is hardly just a gay disease.

But in the eyes of the red cross, we remain oversexed pariahs who are libel to be carrying all manner of diseases, but if we are celibate for a year, we’re allowed to give blood.

Now a group of LA queens, including the hilarious Drew Droege and Jeffery Self, bring us this funny parody of Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar’s “Bad Blood,” called “Sad Studs.” It’s directed by Jake Wilson, and he’s got a link here to an FDA form where you can tell them what you think about this policy change.

In the video we see Jeffery trying desperately to give blood, and then putting on a chastity belt in the face of dozens of hot men throwing themselves at him. And then they all form a Mad Max-meets-Folsom-style band of rebels to, like, storm the fortress of the FDA or something.

Bonus: a cameo by Robert Michael Morris, the guy who played Mickey on The Comeback.

  1. Don’t lift that ban. It’s the only excuse that I have as to why I don’t let some Vampire/Nurse stick a big needle in my arm and take my blood.
