If I was a chef, I would expect to get cooking questions. But I work in porn. I received a text yesterday wondering where the Sean Cody update was. Then another. Then an email. After years of every-other-day updates, was yesterday was a rare miss? Longtime members are hoping this is a one-time glitch despite reports permanent changes may be afoot.
As most of you know, Sean Cody premiered back in September of 2001 and quickly became the gold standard in clean-cut, “straight-acting” gay porn. Behind-the-scenes type interviews were added in 2006 and the last day of 2011 ushered in a new era with Brandon & Pierce Unwrapped, their first bareback scene. It was business as usual until suddenly this past January, Sean Cody was officially acquired by Mindgeek, the parent company of Men.com.
The hand-wringing began almost immediately. Everyone assumed that the new owners would likely tamper with the site somehow, but again it was business as usual… until this week. Yesterday, MenofPorn reported they too received emails from flummoxed fans. And Str8upGayPorn is now reporting, for the time being at least, that updates will be twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at midnight EST, rather than every other day. When this will be most noticeable, of course, is that every other week when what used to be four updates will now be half that amount. For their part, no official word from Sean Cody appears on their website or Twitter.
Time will tell. On one hand, the MindGeek “big porn” approach has always been quantity over quality. But on the other, this could allow Sean Cody to be more selective and eliminate some of the one-jerk-wonders and bored-boring-breeding that has plagued the site lately. Their new guy, Tristan appeared right at midnight. With his kind of busted face and what appears to be a religious text tattoo on his left bicep, was he worth the wait??
