Should You Be Naked At Pride? The Internet Debates Public Nudity

The. Girls. Are. Fighting!

If you’ve been on Twitter today then you’ve probably seen people going back and forth about nudity at Pride events. The debate was unintentionally started by OnlyFans model Alonzo Jordon when he posted some throwback photos of him at LA Pride in 2019. In one photo, Jordon can be seen only wearing sunglasses, a necklace, a backpack, and a bandana that’s wrapped around his thigh and his junk. Many took issue with the display of public nudity and their replies sparked an online debate on the ethics of attending Pride naked.

Many argued that children and queer people that aren’t gay men attend Pride events, so there was no reason for the space to be filled with grown men walking around with their junk hanging out. Others pointed out that there are sex-based events like Folsom and Pride after parties where you can show up naked and embrace your sexual side.

Those critiques didn’t sit right with some in the community and many fought back at remarks saying they should remain clothed during Pride. They argued that being naked isn’t inherently sexual and others said that if nudity makes people uncomfortable, then they shouldn’t come or bring their children.

Take a look at some of the hot takes down below and let us know what you think of the controversy down in the comments!

  1. I am not bothered by nudity–public or not. Pride used to not be so “family friendly” for a very good reason. It was a celebration of ourselves and a protest. We were not afraid to fly our freak flag as we were already rejected by society so we were going to be true to ourselves. You didn’t bring your kids in case the police showed up and decided to bust a few heads. Now everyone is busy showing off how assimilationist they have become by parading their strollers around and complaining about public nudity while changing the baby’s nappies in full view of everyone around them. Funny thing is, you cannot hide the truth of the human body from your children for very long. They will quickly realize that they have a body under those clothes. And the bigger the issue you make out of other people’s bodies, the more likely they are to have issues around body image and sex when they get older.

Brilliant post! Seeing penises won’t damage your children. We are so deeply removed from reality in this society.

  2. A Pride is to claim our right to difference and equality despite our differences. Have the right to be made up to the eyelids, dressed in leather, jeans or naked like a worm and to love each other freely! So yes, I would be dressed for a Pride, but I would not prevent anyone from showing up naked (even if nudity is prohibited in public places in France).

  3. Show some skin bring the kids and kick out the idiots that don’t understand the difference between nudity and sex; including the tongue cluckers. Especially the fool that want’s to be included with in the tribe, but still thinks: gay = peedo. Vote her off the island.

BTW the str8s that say things about the nudity at pride won’t like us no mater what we wear. So trying to appease them is a fruitless effort.

  4. Gay Pride is a celebration of OUR VERY DIVERSE Community! It is a time to come together as a family. And yes if Nudity is the choice 0f a person(s) – so be it! As a member of the community he/she has that choice. The human body is beautiful! For some gay men a woman exposing her breasts is bad – yet she also as the same right! Lets UNITE – especially during Pride – and understand and respect all of our brothers and sisters! Live and Let Live!
This great diversity is what makes the GLBTQ a special community!

    1. I personally get extremely triggered and distraught by nudity. So I wish there were seperate events. A more kid friendly even on a nude beach with the area restricted. And a more family friendly one? I donno

I really wanna to to pride but I’m scared of nudity

You might want to see a professional to understand why that is. If seeing any other animal naked doesn’t bother you, but seeing humans naked does, especially since we evolved as naked beings and clothes came later, there would have to a deeper issue at work for you to be triggered by the naked human form.
        Good luck in your journey.

  5. Sadly some of those who are nude at pride are some of the most obnoxious guys and gals. They seem to think they’re all that and love to flaunt their nudity in some obnoxious way. Usually those are the gym rats who’re ripped and need validation and think this gives them validation and are subconsciously saying ‘look at me i’m beautiful, eat your heart out, and ‘in your dreams’ or whatever. For those that don’t think there should be nudity at pride, they need to get over themselves and if they’re afraid their kids will see naked people and freak out or ask questions, simple solution, leave ’em at home. no sitter, well you evidently didn’t plan ahead.

  6. People need to tell the difference between nudity and sex. Plus if nudity is legal, I don’t see what the problem is.

  7. I think the nudity in public is just vanity and self loving of the one doing. In my opinion I am proud to be gay, live I Australia. I use to go to the Mardi Gras and gay pride but got turn off it as it has turned into nothing but I time for gays to embarrass themselves and other gays. Go nude. Abuse they think they are perfect examples of manhood, having sex out in public and Confirming What straights have thought about us. Pervert Loving girlie exhibitionist! Why I hell is there never a float in the parade that has gay guys dressed in suits. T-shirts and jeans, tuxedos , etc to show straight people that there are gays that are around them that don’t need to parade around showing their cocks. Dressed in feathers, g string dancing around like effeminate she trying to hook up and as drag queens. Not all gays are Like that! Hi we are a variety of guys barristers ,lawyers, contruction workers, postman, etc but they just want to show the deviant side! Show gays they way are they are everyday guys ,drag queens ,Dykes on Bikes and be proud of being gay and wanting to be excepted. Trolling around flashing your Goolies and arse in public is not the way really says a lot ie we don’t give a damn if we insult you! I would take my kids that are grown up now to watch the parade to show them it was not to shunned or made fun Of. I stopped due to the fact I wasn’t going to expose my kids to and show them the sleazy side of gays , naked in public , prancing around imitating sexual Intercourse on a float way above the crowd. I may offend some people with this comment but that’s my opinion and I’m proud to say I’m GAY! Sorry if I sound anti gay but I’m far from it I want the world to see the side of gay people I’m part of as well as the side drag queens , the effeminate, lesbian, transgender ,etc. all these type of gays are tHe the feel the brunt of the deviant side of gay lifestyle. I want to be excepted and show straights that I can walk proud down street holding hands with another guy without the thought that Any minute that I’m going shove my hand down his pants and starting giving a blowjob!
I Apologise for any offend that I may have caused bit remember were are more than muscles ,cock ,and balls and nudes walking around .We are gay and we’re proud!

  8. If it’s in San Francisco, isn’t public nudity among men and women and even children common? A video on Vimeo shows a boy marching down a San Francisco street naked and accompanied by other naked adults, all escorted by SFPD. Among the signs are “My Body, My Choice” and “What are you looking at?” as I recall. I doubt a San Francisco child has not seen someone publicly naked. I also have wondered about what a San Francisco child learns about sex and at what age. I assume San Francisco children are an extremely well-informed and intelligent bunch of kids when it comes to sex, sexuality and their own bodies. I have a feeling that, in San Francisco schools, children express their sexuality at an early age and that by high school, I would see the whole spectrum of dating and sexuality. A simple stroll down a San Francisco high school hallway would probably be a lesson in and of itself.

    1. SF repealed the hippie era allowance for public nudity a couple of years ago. Gentrification in action. Although festivals, that have limited access, can allow it IE Folsom, Dore Alley.

  9. …but DON’T! DON’T leave the kids at home at all!!! We’re a fucked up nation of Puritan descendants who are more comfortable letting our kids watch people’s heads being obliterated by gunfire but we MUSN’T let them see a dick walking around!!! NO NO MUSTN’T let our little boys learn to love themselves for how they look or little girls to be comfortable with their genitalia; as though these people still believe that Sex can ONLY be used morally for procreation! FUCK THAT!!!! ENOUGH!

We are NOT the puritans anymore; we would have to DENY UTTERLY every bit of our cultural history over the last 400 years to allow that at our queer events!!

We all know there are thousands and thousands of people who bring their kids to heavy music concerts where there’s TONS of nudity going on for “str8” people, so don’t try to play the piety card that it’s shocking for children to be brought to OUR parties and may see naked happy men and naked happy womyn going about their business and having a beer and a dance and a laugh and a kiss!!!

What more can we humans HOPE FOR than such Happiness in the world; especially here in 2020!!! LET IT GOOOO, you prudes! Let your kids see and learn for themselves about human anatomy and love and sex and PLEASURE!!! ALL GOOD THINGS.

  10. Save the nudity for nude beaches, bedrooms, porn and private lives. Pride events should be family friendly.

  11. I don’t think you should go to the streets naked. People would be more receptive to gays if they saw them in normal clothes. Because then they would understand that anyone can be gay, you don’t have to be deviant to be attracted to your own gender (either). After seeing that they are normal people and completely members of society. But if they do it in a closed place, it’s different because only those who care and want to see it go there and find it good fun. I also like to be naked, but I only show myself where it has a place. Such as. here.

    1. Thank you, I agree. By making a display of fetishes at Pride or other LGBTQ events we draw attention away for the fact we are no different than anyone. WE are HUMANS, if you cut us we will bleed… We dress in outlandish outfits and expect everyone to accept us, but really what we all want it to accepted for who we are on the inside.

  12. Universal Potentate

We need to accept our bodies as normal and stop hiding them. “The children” are not damaged by seeing human bodies. “The fundies” are however and anything to normalize what is, in fact, normal to this bunch of puritanical, unnatural hatemongers isa-okay in my book.
