“Stop The Shoot, He’s Choking On My Dental Dam!”

A new ad from the No On Measure B campaign, starring straight porn superstar James Deen.

There’s a lot of information given in the first minute. Can you read it, interpret it, and watch what’s going on in the background at the same time? I’m distracted by James Deen to care about the content of the ad. I and most of you already know what this ad is about, but the average L.A. voter doesn’t. Does the No On B campaign expect people to be that informed about a down ballot local measure? Also, does anyone outside of the porn industry know who Michael Weinstein is?

Eventually, things come together by the second minute of the clip. If you know nothing about Measure B, it becomes clear what it would do via an effective, comedic use of exaggeration. Plus, everyone loves James Deen.

Both the “Yes on B” and “No on B’ campaigns are driven, of course, by money. The “Yes” people–AHF and Michael Weinstein–are rumored to be in bed with the condom companies, while most the funding behind “No” comes from mega producer Manwin, which stands to lose an untold amount of money if they have to start using condoms and can’t provide customers with the bareback content they demand. But regardless of motives, B is fundamentally wrong. It’s unenforceable, unnecessary, and a big government overreach that has bizarrely made allies out of the porn industry and the L.A. County Republican Party, which has come out in opposition to the measure.

If you live in L.A., vote no on B.

    1. no, his look is what makes him popular. not everyone’s into the whole roided, hit the gym 6 days a week look. his “normal”ness is his charm! i think josh long comes closest to this in gay porn.

  1. Deen also claims to not have any STDs and have never had an STI. Considering that he’s been in over 1300 titles since 2004, he’s either a liar, or has such good luck that he’s wasting his time testing and could bottom for every model at Treasure Island Media and still not get HIV.

  2. I found this spot to be extremely poorly put together. I was NOT aware of what this Prop was. The ad is FAR too long and there is FAR too much information in text that does not stay on the screen long enough for one to read and understand what is going on. The one figure that stuck out was that porn stars constitute “less than 1% of STDs”. Well only one out of 100,000 people is probably a porn star so if they consititute 1% of STD’s that AINT GOOD! That would mean that nearly every porn star has multiple STDs. That figure just isn’t meaningful, understandable or intelligent. This ad used so much exxageration and failed so badly in informing me about the issues that I felt compelled to leave this comment.I have ZERO understanding of what this bill would actually mean to the porn industry.

  3. It’s like with the NRA. Who cares about a few people getting shot? Pry the gun from my dead cold hands yada, yada.

Porn will never become anything else than smut in the eyes of conservatives. But at least the porn industry could make an effort and act with a bit of integrity and put more effort in safe and effective STD testing without being forced by law to do even more.

  4. Yeah, because how people have sex should ALWAYS be up for a public vote, like who can get married. AHP=AIDS Helps Profits.

    1. Not “always” – only if a sufficient threshold of people believe it an issue worthy of public deliberation, which requires arguments for and against in a particular factual matrix from people both committed to the cause and those who have a certain detachment from it. As comments above and below suggest (as well as on other posts), this is an issue where reasonable people from all walks of life can reasonably disagree. There are no a priori ‘correct’ answers. In many of these cases these measures are largely symbolic.

  5. It’s worth noting that James Deen’s perspective on this measure is EXCELLENT and you can see more of the ideas represented via: http://youtu.be/l1LTp994mdE (Brain Food Daily’s “Should the Porn Industry Require Condoms?” clip)

I’ll take a straight, competent, and talented performer any day over a bunch of sad queens Rock-Paper-Scissor-ing it over the Martyr-of-the-Day and/or debating the validity of G4P-ers.

    Yeah, I said it.

Also, in shorter-attention-span news, James Deen is smart, personable, and HOT (not necessarily in that order).
I can’t wait for the sculpt of his dong. UNFFF.
