Text Message Embroidery

That’s what a certain multimedia artist who goes by gingeranyhow did, embroidering a series of 20 text messages she either sent or received–actually over the course of fourteen months.

For us, this would probably cover about six or seven “relationships,” but in the case of this (presumably) straight girl, the series appears to cover just a single one, beginning with the initial “you’re welcome to come over” and ending with a few goodbyes and “i wish we were still on cuddling terms.”

In an age when “hanging out” suffices for “dating” and a lot of drunken words get exchanged with boyfriends without the use of your voice, we like what gingeranyhow does to bring permanence to an impermanent medium. Here are a few of our favorites below.  It’s art, yo.

p.s. We still do not recommend the text message breakup for any hanging-out-situation that lasts beyond two weeks.
