We live in a world in which a moderately well known porn model can ask the public for $4,000 for a travel video project (that is essentially an expense-paid trip) to Peru, end up receiving $16,000 and extending the trip to two more cities with some swell camera equipment to boot.
I’m not going to begrudge retired porn model Levi Michaels, who’s now just making YouTube videos as Rustin Low, randomly reviewing backpacks, and maybe still go-go dancing (?) in New York the ability to raise this money using his moderate and temporary fame and cute mug, because if people want to give him money for projects, they should.
But in the meantime, he basically gave up doing porn, and maybe some fans were hoping that, like Colby Keller’s similarly crowdfunded travel plan, this one would be, like, sexy?
Because it’s not. In Part 3 of 3, which Levi just posted a little over five months after he got back from the trip, we get an 11-minute summary of his time in Lima with buddies Joe and Anthony, who is also known as “my cameraman.”
He kind of fancies himself some younger Anthony Bourdain, only they don’t really eat a lot, and they drink a lot of wine in their hotel rooms — and the name of the series, “No Strings Attached” or NSA, is reminiscent of Bourdain’s “No Reservations.” They take zip-lines! They go sand-boarding! But essentially they’re just twentysomethings doing touristy stuff and saying nothing interesting or insightful.
So yeah, if you gave money for this and thought you were doing anything besides paying for his vacation, I’m sorry. Because what you have in return is an HD vacation video. And I’m not sure he really promised you anything else.
Here was Part 1, in which Levi/Rustin and his pals went to Bogota, Colombia. There’s a lot of mindless chatter about being excited at the airport, and from the inside of hotel rooms, and sitting around drinking wine.
And Part 2, which is the trip to Machu Pichu.
