The Ten Best Blogs & Bloggers & Twitterers And Online Things Of 2k11

I’m not gonna play favorites or reveal who I absolutely loathe (you know who you are) among my peers in the adult blogging world. So instead, a list of the ten best non-porn blogs and bloggers of 2k11.

10. Hunter Moore & Is Anyone Up?
Technically, it could be considered porn, but looking at some of these poor sexters naked (after they’ve had their nude iPhone pics or webcam screenshots sent in by jilted ex-partners), IsAnyoneUp.com is more of a comedy site than anything else. Plus, site founder Hunter Moore (pictured, left) has some sort of entertaining drunken meltdown every night after someone threatens to sue him, the most recent being Facebook.

9. Megan Amram
Megan is one of the most consistently funny people on the internet (if you’re not following her on Twitter, I’m sorry). I discovered her through her Glee audition video, though:

8. The Awl
Thoughtful, quick takes on news, culture, entertainment, memes, and more.

7. Erik Rhodes’ Tumblr
I guess this could count as porn, too. But, not really. For an honest and depressing take on gay porn, as told by one of the best gay porn stars in the world, check it out. If you don’t, Erik might kill himself.

6. Vice
Comedian Rob Delaney and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce are just two of the contributors who make Vice a daily read.

5. Daniel Villareal at Queerty
Even with the new ownership, Queerty still doesn’t really know what it’s doing a lot of the time, but there’s at least one person, Daniel, who has a clue and can actually write.

4. Brenden Shucart
He took on Bruce LaBruce, and he also wrote one of the best articles about being diagnosed with HIV that I’ve ever read. (You better believe it’s worth a read if I just linked to the Huffington Post.)

3. Fauxjob
Duh. The .gif capital of the internet.

2. Big Ole Titties
Big Ole Titties (a.k.a. Wanda LaQuanda) is the absurdly crass African-American woman who created her own language on Twitter which, if you can translate it, will either offend you or delight you. (Also, she’s not real.) Example:

And…

The #1 blog of 2k11?

1. Hipster Runoff
While on the surface it might look like a blog about indie bands and alt celebrities, it isn’t really about those things at all. Written entirely by someone named “Carles” (who made his own brilliant end of the year list, and who appears to be the most tortured person in existence), this is the best writing on the internet, or anywhere. I’m embarrassed to be writing anything knowing that he is writing also. Start here. And here. Or here. Or here. And then here.

Honorable Mentions:
Anthony Romero (on Twitter or on his blog)
Paula Deen’s Vagina
Nightcharm
This Roseanne article
Porn Helen Keller
Ken Layne/Wonkette

  1. Ugh. Hipster Runoff, to me, is like the music blog equivalent of the Sword. I like the information given but once you get to the comments section, you get a grasp as to why the audience the blog is catering to gets such bad rep.

  2. I want to like Carles from Hipster Runoff. He has some interesting topics and is definitely contemporary. I think his or her quirks (2 for to or too) sometimes hinder the ideas. Also, you both end posts with questions, which I find lazy and dull. But his or her comments on the nature of the internet and modern living are smart. I wish he or she would jettison the textspeak and write full clear sentences. Textspeak is a jargon that is aging rapidly.

      1. True but in a overly self-conscious way that grows grating. Fragments and song lyrics and Twitter/text spelling are the new-speak I suppose, and Hipster Runoff is satire, which needs to imitate what it is critiquing, but true satire also has an ideological agenda. Jonathan Swift wanted to help the Irish poor in “A Modest Proposal” and Stephen Colbert is obvious humanist who pokes holes in conservative politics. But I can’t detect any notable targets besides hipster America and the internet. And this is okay, you don’t need to be political to be good, but to say he or she is doing the best writing on the internet or anywhere is far fetched.
