They Knew

‘The Advocate’ knew about Kevin Spacey’s encounter with a teen, but didn’t speak.

Former Advocate editor in chief, Bruce C. Steele, is trying to explain their way out of this.

No. This is not the way we wanted Kevin Spacey to come out. But we don’t get to decide that.

The Advocate’s “no outing” policy” is what they are offering as an excuse for keeping their mouths shut and withholding the information since 2001.

Look, hiding behind a policy, no matter how “nobly” held, is no excuse for hiding a crime. No matter what it is. And no matter who did it.

Being gay doesn’t get anyone a get out jail free card for anything. And they knew. And they knew better..
