This New Equality Campaign Is Fucking Retarded

They’re pretty pictures, but as far as servicing gay activism, this new photo campaign called We Can Do It is every bit as flaccid as the No On H8 campaign. Name a single thing that the No On H8 campaign has done other than inflate Adam Bouska’s contact list, bolster countless Facebook profiles with high-contrast glamour shots and alert everyone to the fact that — surprise! — Kathy Griffin supports gay marriage.

And now we have to deal with the copycats behind We Can Do It, who plan to achieve gay equality by emulating a working woman and highlighting the arm muscles of gay people who were on TV in the ’90s.

The goal is to bring to life modern iconic individuals, by depicting them as powerful and not victims in support of the global LGBT movement worldwide.

Iconic individuals? Is that what we’re calling former Amazing Race contestants now? Oh and I forgot to mention that the posters below are for sale.

  1. Australia iin Newcastle tongiht at some dingy club look at the wall and theres some chick with her badanna on say we can do it
i guess its getting out there

  2. Actually, Megan McCain is very vocally and publicly pro-gay, Jasun Mark. She promotes gay rights within the Republican Party, against the majority of socially conservative assholes whom you’re familiar with.

John McCain himself is not as anti-gay as George W. Bush or the Republican Party base. McCain is one of the few Republican senators who stopped George W. Bush’s constitutional amendment banning gay marriage (though I’m sure he supports the ban on gays in the military. He doesn’t sponsor any pro-gay legislation, to my knowledge). McCain occasionally praises Mark Bingham to draw attention to gays, which is radical for a Republican presidential candidate (!).

The McCains come from a long tradition of Arizona libertarianism, commonly called “Goldwater Conservativism,” which are philosophies tough on defense but llibertarian nearly everywhere else.

Barry Goldwater himself was pro-gay decades ago. He had a close, gay relative.

I’m not saying I support any of these people; only that they could be MUCH worse and you’ve gotten Megan McCain wrong …

  3. I never really “got” the NOH8 campaign, to be honest.

    Why the duct tape?

Seeing that Megan McCain one just confused me. She’s there shoving a Republican icon in our faces and demonstrating that she might believe in gay equality but won’t say it out loud? Is she saying “I’m publicly a Republican and campaign for them but shhhh.. don’t tell anyone… I love da gheys?”

Yeah, bitch, we know. You tried to get your homophobe of a father and his idiot Alaskan side kick elected. If you really gave a shit about the gay community, you wouldn’t have done that. I mean, sure… parties are better for fat girls if there’s a gay guy to cock block, but honestly… aside from a few “mommy will love me more if I’m conservative” types… you really think you’re doing any good at all?

  4. What a disaster! Please have the person who came up with the idea to copy the “Rosie the Riveter” poster gay bash him/herself for this. Seriously, having gay men emulate a strong female icon – could you be any more cliche??

  5. ” He’s a sweet-talkin’, sugar-coated candyman.” LOL That song came to mind when I first saw these photos.

And I 100% agree about the NOH8 Campaign. I always thought it was pointless and would accomplish nothing. Honestly, how do you expect to make an impact by putting duct tape on your mouth? All that does is portray the gay community as a bunch of masochists.

  6. Well, I think the photos are cute. My appreciation is more from a visual/artsy perspective of course (love anything pulp or pop art inspired/influenced) but I can sympathise that the political dimension might be a little… weak. That said, who the bloody hell ARE these people?!? I read the names on the website and I still have no idea. At least they’re actually gay though. It would be shitloads worse if they were simply straight actors expressing solidarity…

  7. I love you. This posting ROCKS!!

Yes. The NoH8 campaign is stupid.
Just like this one… especially when they have G4P porn performers, or performers that are ‘questioning,’ in its campaign… ahem, Jeremy Bilding.

It is exactly what you’ve described–a bunch of people looking for the next photo shoot, they all have one thing in common: attention whores.
