TLA Sorry For Joking About Child Rape

TLA’s offensive and insane “What Would Sandusky Watch?” promotion (screen-grabbed above) had been running over the long holiday weekend, but this morning the entire page has been replaced with an editor’s note that includes one of those famous non-apology apologies.

TLA is so sorry that you can’t understand their sense of humor. Clearly, you just aren’t sharp enough to comprehend satire:

A few days ago we posted an article that caused distress among some customers. While clearly satirical in nature and not a “sales-driven” piece as some have suggested – over 1/3 of the films that were mentioned are out of print and not available to purchase, and all were legitimate art, foreign or independent works – it struck a nerve with some. As a gay-owned and operated business on the forefront of LGBT issues for over 30 years, we have always taken jabs at current events and pop culture. But in this instance our sense of humor did not come through in the way that we intended, and for that we apologize.

See, it’s your fault for not getting TLA’s joke. A joke about child rape.

Who cares if it was or wasn’t a sales-driven piece? It’d be less ridiculous if it were just a sales piece and not someone’s idea of “comedy.” Sorry, TLA, you aren’t The Onion. Everyone “gets” that you were trying to be funny, but, surprise, some things just aren’t funny. Never mind the disrespect to Sandusky’s alleged victims—why is a gay-owned company like TLA linking an accused child rapist to gay culture, gay media, or gay anything?

Who needs the Westboro Baptist Church when you’re got TLA?

  1. TLA made a severe mistake with this extremely aggressive and disrespectful type of humor. Rape is a crime, it´s not a game. It´s an extremely serious thing and some victims live all their lives with the damages. TLA doesn´t have my respect. And the apology was ridiculous and totally arrogant.

  2. I don’t agree with the nature of their promotion. But I think their editors note is acceptable. At least the did apologize. These days most people and companies don’t or won’t.

      1. Go to countries like Go to Uganda where publications would print out the names of known homosexuals and request to have them killed because “they are after our children.” Pedophilia has been long linked to homosexuality because of the ignorance of people outside the LGBT community. And surprisingly, it is the ignorance of people within the LGBT community which has sustained many stereotypes about us–this one included.

You can ask someone to go under a bridge the same way I can ask you to crawl out of whatever rock you are under.

        1. I’m sorry, but there is NOTHING remotely funny about anything that revolves around the rape of a child. Whether accused or found guilty. Nothing about this should be associated with being gay, and this has nothing to do about having a sense of humor or not…living under a bridge or crawling from under a rock…It is a crime against a child in the worst way !!!! Whoever approved that ad should be fired to say the least…

    1. Agreed. Because we all know that African Americans were able to improve their rights by not doing anything, right? LOL. Sit your ass down, idiot.
