Son of MLB Player Opens Up About Leaving Baseball & Becoming A Gay Porn Star

Former Helix Studios star Troy Ryan just sat down with podcast host Alex Reimer for the newest episode of The Sports Kiki. The two went in deep on Troy’s life and discussed his high school baseball career, how get got signed with Helix, and of course, what it’s like being a gay porn star with an ex-MLB player for a dad.

Troy’s dad, who played as a relief pitcher for the California Angels for two seasons in the mid 1990s, was actually very accepting of him being gay. The former Helix star talks about how it took his dad time to understand his sexuality, but he was eventually very supportive. Troy’s teammates and his new, openly homophobic baseball coach were not as accepting though.

“Our starting catcher that year was actually my best friend at the time,” Troy said. “After I came out, he completely cut me off outside of baseball, so it made it really awkward.”

Troy said he wanted to continue playing baseball past high school, but he left the sport his senior year because of the discrimination.

After high school, he moved out of state and got a job at Buffalo Wild Wings. He was then contacted by a Helix Studios recruiter through an app about possibly doing a scene.

“I gave it a shot. I applied. I didn’t really think anything of it. About two weeks later I got a call back saying they wanted to fly me out and shoot,” Troy said. “With new models in the industry, you don’t really know if they’re going to stick or not. So I didn’t fly back out for another two or three months after my first two scenes. But they said I was building a following.”

At 18 years old, Troy found success with Helix. He signed on as a exclusive model to the studio and shot 27 scenes with them from 2014-2017. But when his contract was eventually up for renegotiation, Troy didn’t end up renewing it. He had decided to leave the industry.

“I could have probably made a career out of it if I had chose too. Especially once I get older and my body’s not what it was, I can transfer into the production side of things,” Troy said. “I don’t know. I never considered that when I was that young. I just thought it was temporary at the time.”

Troy is now the host of his own sports podcast, Balls and Brews, and lives in Knoxville, TN. He sells cars as his main job and says that his coworkers know about his porn career and are totally fine with it.

“It’s not so taboo,” Troy said. “Car sales is very vulgar, so a lot of them get a kick out of it.”
