Websites Other Than Corbin Fisher That Will Lead To The Outing Of Closeted Gay Teens

gayinternetI made a list.

It’s not just gay porn found on a computer or gay porn lawsuits that can lead to the eventual outing of closeted gay teens. Anything gay-related that you click on (gay porn or not) can be traced–maybe even back traced–by your parents, and you will be outed. If you’re a closeted gay teen and you’re on the internet, watch out! If your anti-gay mom sees you’ve been visiting, say, UnicornBooty.com, she’ll know that you are a gay, and then she will kill you. Unless of course you beat her to it and kill yourself.

Following the logic of Unicorn Booty’s Kevin Farrell and his water carrier Queerty (that exposing closeted gay teens who have stolen gay porn will result in their deaths), here is a list of websites that are either pro-gay or take a pro-gay stance or that in one way or another feature or have featured gay marriage equality news, gay hate crime news, gay shirtless hunks, gay celeb gossip, gay politics, gay teevee, gay movies, gay sports, gay drugs, gay dogs, gaycations, gay food, gay music, gay drag queens, gay dating, and gay writers that, if discovered on the family computer, will lead to the outing and inevitable suicide of closeted gay teens. Why do these websites want closeted gay teens to die?

UnicornBooty.com, Queerty.com, JoeMyGod.blogspot.com, Advocate.com, Gay.com, KennethInThe212.com, OMGBlog.com, PinkIsTheNewBlog.com, Dlisted.com, GayPatriot.net, TheStranger.com, AndrewSullivan.com, LogoTV.com, HuffingtonPost.com, Gawker.com, JustJared.com, BoyCulture.com, OKCupid.com, Out.com, TheOnion.com, TheAwl.com, PamsHouseBlend.com, Glaad.org, Homotography.blogspot.com, Towleroad.com, Bilerico.com, PerezHilton.com, WorldOfWonder.net, NYTimes.com, TMZ.com, LATimes.com, Craigslist.org, Jezebel.com, DailyKos.com, EW.com, BoingBoing.net, 365Gay.com, OutTraveler.com, and basically every Tumblr.

  1. It’s fascinating that normative society sees us as one giant queer community, but within the community we care so little about each other that we can joke about young people killing themselves.

  2. RandyN – the flaw in what unicornbooty is saying (and what you are kind of endorsing) is that porn is the only significant factor here. Are we to believe, with how extreme his family’s reaction was, that porn really made all the difference? I’d say TheSword’s list probably does include a great many sites that would have resulted in a similar reaction from such an intolerant family. Unicornbooty’s original video, and this latest one they’ve followed it up with, are attempting to say that porn is really what did it and suggest that no other circumstances could have led to those same outcomes – and that’s very misleading, inaccurate, and silly.

I also think it odd that unicornbooty would attempt to try and propose alternative ways for a production company to protect their content, while clearly having no idea what he’s talking about. If the watermarking stuff and everything else he’s proposing really were that easy, I’d guess every company out there would be actively employing it already. He seems to want to fight tooth and nail to stick to the idea that the issue of piracy (and any negative outcomes that arise from it) are all the fault of the porn producers and no one else. That’s evident at every step of the way for him.

    – Outings resulting from piracy? It’s the fault of the porn companies enforcing their copyrights.
    – Piracy in the first place? It’s the fault of porn companies not doing enough to protect their stuff.
    – Pirated videos on torrent sites? It’s the fault of the porn companies for letting it get there in the first place.
    – Underage user gets videos off torrents? It’s the fault of the porn companies for letting their stuff get on the torrents and not letting underage users join their sites.
    – Closeted individuals getting stuff off torrents? Porn company’s fault for being so obviously porny, thus pushing people to torrents as an alternative.

Look at the extent to which he goes out of his way to excuse the [illegal] acts of any underage, closeted people he’s convinced are involved here? Apparently it’s only natural and entirely excusable that an underage person illegally acquires porn. Apparently it’s entirely permissible that a closeted person pirate porn. The only time someone commits a wrongdoing is when the copyright owner seeks to enforce their copyrights. That copyright owner should just accept that certain people have a valid incentive to violate the law! Ludicrous.

And, again, this narrative unicornbooty wants to propose, in which Porn+Outing = Suicide are inevitable, and the Porn is the most important variable in that equation and upon which the entire equation rests, is silly. unicornbooty clearly came from an intolerant, closedminded, unloving family. I hardly doubt they really needed porn to demonstrate that fact. Clearly, his situation didn’t play out as, “Son, you downloaded gay porn! You’re gay! Grrrr! And we’d tolerate and deal with it and forgive and forget… but you’re also getting sued! So be gone from our home!!”.

What unicornbooty also fails to recognize is that, in his own alleged situation and that of the latest “victim” posted on their site, no lawsuit or evil, money-grubbing, heartless porn company was necessary at all. The “victims” proved extremely capable of outing themselves and attempting suicide, even without there being any sinister, bloodthirsty, copyright villain hunting them down and ruining their lives. That alone makes it clear to me that the porn company enforcing its copyrights isn’t the source of potentially negative outcomes and isn’t ultimately responsible for them. Shit happens even without such a player being involved. So… what are the factors that really do create such outcomes, then? 1) a kid getting pron and 2) a messed up family. So rather than excuse that kid and family from any responsibility or role in this, perhaps he should focus on them if he wants to launch a crusade against someone.

The absurdity of him trying to peg the porn companies as the bad guys here, and propose himself as some selfless do-gooder who’s just “trying to help the kids! Please, won’t someone please think of the children?!?!” is so transparent. Check out the comments to his first video. In it, he and his little band of anti-porn crusaders literally endorse pirating, encourage people to keep doing it, and never make any attempt to really caution kids against it. Where’s his video discouraging kids from illegally acquiring porn? Where’s his follow-up video saying, “Best way to avoid all this, kids? Don’t steal porn!”?!

In their own comments to his first pathetic pity piece, a couple self-professed kids come along to say, “Ah! I’m traumatized! I stole porn and am now afraid!”.

“Do not hurt yourself over what this company is doing!!”, UB says.

“Don’t worry! They won’t catch you! Try free tube sites instead from now on! It’s safer!”, one of his followers says.

Uh… WTF?! According to UB’s own video, a free tube site could still end up in outing and death! Why not caution these kids to stop accessing porn?! According to UB’s own story, that’s all that is really necessary to risk outing. Where’s the, “Delete all traces of porn on your computer and don’t do it again until you’re 18 and away at college!”?!? Nope. None of that. Instead, it’s “Hey keep doing what you’re doing – which is precisely what I did and made me almost kill myself. And CF sucks!”.

Dumb asses. So if some kind who, encouraged by UB to check out free porn tube sites, gets busted after not clearing his browser history, will UB take the fall for that? I doubt it.

  3. Huffington Post? DailyKos? You’re really not taking this issue seriously, are you? You sound like an idiot.

  4. @ Steve Fan — Really??? If only solving the issue of piracy were that simple. Maybe in the fantasy dreamworld he lives in piracy is taken care of by the magical waving of a “DMCA” notice sent to the site. His simplistic answer to the issue only shows how truly uninformed he is on the entire subject. Here’s an idea, why doesn’t he hire you ( for some measly minimum wage) to patrol the net for his scenes & then send out the DMCA notices?

  5. The only thing that Unicorn Booty’s whining writer has convinced me of is that he comes from a shitty family.

  6. I might have to switch over to reading Steven Daigle’s blog from now on. He’s a little more measured in his response finding fault with BOTH the people and the companies when it comes to piracy. Perhaps you should put his post up as a main story and not hide it in the corner links of your page so readers have something that makes them think about. Not have us waste a few minutes of our day reading such an obvious post hoping for a little more effort.

  7. I know Unicorn Booty is an idiot, but the issue really merits some thought, and continuing to make fun of it will not, in the end, solve anything. Logic, buddy, let’s have a cool one with Zach too. I know you are getting tired, but …that’s the way we roll.

    1. how is this THE SAME as being outed by a lawyer who knocks at your door, calls you in court and that costs your family thousands of dollars? Even the most opened family will go ballistic on your little gay ass and don’t tell me that the “you little fag” expressions will not show up. How about a homophobic / violent family?

    2. can you explain aways visiting these websites? Yes: I was doing a research for school, I caught a virus that opens these pages up, friends who are visiting, it’s a prank from my buddy Joe, I got a link from a friend and didn’t know what it was, etc. It can be explained away . The good thing about homophobic families is that most of them would really just believe it’s not true anyway, and that helps!
Can you explain away IP and harsh based evidence handed to your family expensive lawyer that you were downloading GAY porn…and presumably watching? Really, not that easy!

Zach, you of all people should know this: just because some supporters of an issue are morons, that does not render the issue mute. Remember that horrible noh8 video? Does that make the issue less important?

  8. Brilliant! Except with the new gawker redesign no one can find anything. Epic FAIL. But I love this post. Thanks for the continued coverage.
