Who Would You Guess Is The ‘Safest’ Bareback Porn Studio?

This current era of bareback porn, which remains simultaneously highly controversial and wildly popular, is not likely ever going to be the proudest moment for gay culture. But nevertheless people have their tastes and prejudices, and just on the surface not all bareback porn is created equal.

Let’s take it as a given that no sex is 100% safe, and that gay porn performers take some amount of risk when they have any sort of sex for money. And let’s also take it as a given that all porn studios, bareback or not, are performing some kind of STD testing as per the industry-wide standards, which are now set at every 14 days for active performers. Also, let’s just assume that the models themselves are not betraying each other by going out and getting gang-banged raw by a bunch of status-undetermined strangers in between testing and shooting their scenes.

In the last several years, as the gay porn studio system has shrunk rapidly but still stuck their condom-only guns, and online-based scene-pumper-outers like Sean Cody and Corbin Fisher have continued to thrive but were very quick to throw condoms out the window, most of us have had to take it as a given that bareback is here to stay. So, out of the 23 sites and studios that have gone the bareback route, at least some of the time, let’s look at a couple of the bigger ones and see which ones you think, on the surface and based on earlier statements by producers (as well as based on your own biases as fans), are keeping things above board and doing their absolute best to protect the health of their models.

Bel Ami

Founder George Duroy said in this 2010 interview (at the time he had only made a couple handfuls of bareback scenes, but that number has grown exponentially), “Bel Ami is the only company in this business which (in seventeen years) hasn’t had a single case of ANY STD on the set. I have the good luck to work in a country [Slovakia] where, in the first twenty-five years of the AIDS epidemic, only eight people died of HIV infection as compared to 400,000 in the U.S. If I lived in California, I certainly wouldn’t shoot without condoms, but I see no special reason to stick to the same rules here. Eight deaths in twenty-five years doesn’t constitute an epidemic — many more people die of ordinary flu here. Therefore, I think that while in the U.S. bareback equals Russian roulette, it is here merely condom-free. To put it another way, we also don’t keep a hurricane watch here, just because the Gulf of Mexico has that problem.” This of course doesn’t answer how he handles testing when it comes the import of American models like Max Ryder and Mick Lovell. But anyway… here’s a shot from Bel Ami’s latest bareback scene featuring Rick Lautner and Alec Rothko.

Corbin Fisher

The whole “straight college guy” thing they have going on at Corbin Fisher includes threeways involving women, which is just gross if you ask me. But someone must be watching them. And like Bel Ami’s George Duroy, Corbin insists they “do not recommend or endorse” unsafe sex, even though they do tarry terms like “seed” and “raw” and all that.

Anyway, here’s that famed santorum moment when Harper “seeded” Chandler last year.

Helix Studios

While I can’t speak to how practices may have changed over at Helix, we have testimony from one formal model that once upon a time they were one of the studios that offered models $100 extra if they’d do a scene bareback. That comes with obviously huge implications for the idea of choice and consent when you’re dealing with broke twinks, but we can say that these days a lot of Helix’s scenes are done with condoms, and this most recent “real cam” bareback scene features real-life fiancés Jessie Montgomery and Jamie Sanders, who are presumably probably doing this at home too. Update: Helix’s Casey Roman reached out to clarify, “Helix does not pay extra for bareback or otherwise encourage models to bareback, it’s always their option. The $100 bonus was a thing at one point a couple years ago but is no longer the practice for obvious reasons.”

Next Door Studios

Once upon a time, Next Door founder Stephan Sirard equated bareback porn studios that don’t test for HIV to murderers. Then in October 2013, surprisingly, the studio went bareback, but Sirard was quick to clarify to The Sword that “We have been one of the most aggressive studios on model STD testing. Our panel testing is more elaborate than any other studio out there; we test for every sexually transmitted disease.” Also, he said that all models who choose to shoot bareback will be tested a total of three times beginning three weeks prior to their scenes and including RNA testing that has a shorter window of accuracy. And, to their credit, they haven’t done a ton of promotion around the bareback stuff, and on the Next Door Buddies homepage there isn’t even any distinction between bareback and condom scenes. Below, their most recent bareback adventure Fuck Dynasty, starring approved bareback bottom Christian Cayden, and Mark Long.

Sean Cody

Sean Cody waited until December 2011 to turn to bareback, and these days they do 100% bareback duo scenes, meaning that models who don’t want to do bareback are relegated to solos only. They took the “we don’t recommend or endorse” route, being cautious enough at first to run a disclaimer before every bareback scene, which they ultimately quit doing in 2012. Still, they say, they use the RNA test on every model, and in the two-plus years since they started bareback shoots we haven’t heard of any cases of models there getting infected, and I’m pretty sure we would have if it had happened by now since it likely would have led to a public lawsuit and/or an industry-wide moratorium. That said, it could happen anytime, and distraught viewers still write them letters.

This is their latest bareback scene, which admittedly is pretty fucking hot, featuring big-dicked Peter and big-dicked Jess.

Treasure Island Media

Treasure Island’s founder Paul Morris has made many a controversial statement about bareback sex and the movies he produces, including that time in 2011 when he declared the AIDS crisis over. You’ve heard them all. And he’s all for employing openly HIV+ models and not stigmatizing them. Lately he’s fending off fines from the California state employee health and safety board (Cal/OHSA) regarding that seminal (and semenal) classic The 1000 Load Fuck. But, he wants everyone to know, that white goop they were turkey-basting into that hole was “definitely all real human semen” despite claims to the contrary. Also, Treasure Island’s porn remains wildly popular whether you like it or not.

Below, a still from The 1000 Load Fuck.

  1. chaosmen is really deserving of more attention. that’s top shelf porn right there. the models are unconventionally hot, get into it, the vids have polish, and the g4p stuff doesn’t even matter since it’s executed so well. that’s where my vote goes, so tired of all these other studios that produce lackluster content, even a la randyblue in the cayden ross/reece rideout era.

  2. I’m thinking you should add Guys In Sweatpants to this list considering Austin Wilde just went BB in his latest scene with some guy named Tanner Bishop.

  3. If it is so safe why in many BB studios models avoid facial cum shots, when in the other hand, many condom-only studios models do suck and receive facial cum shots??

  4. All of them. Why in straight porn those guys werent wear any condoms even if it is in group sex. Imagine 1 girl and 20 guys. Or how about those fuck party those college guys didnt have any condoms as well. And now you are condeming these gay studios. Get a life straight slaves.

  5. LOL, asking which “bareback” website is the safest is like asking which pile of shit is the most pleasant-smelled one. Seriously, it’s still carrying a tremendous amount of risk, so I wouldn’t go into putting the word “safe” associate with “barebacking”. But I did vote anyway. As much as I know about the risk associates with barebacking, I still watch them (and I think as a lot of you guy, we are pig, aren’t we??) I voted for SC not because all of the stuff they claimed about the preventative shit but solely by the look of their models. I enjoyed SC’s healthy, innocent and clean look and I think SC did a very careful job on selecting which guys do they want to keep and which one takes the train. I believe they don’t allow their model to do escort, unlike their competitors. But I’m not gonna finalize anything because there are still possibility (although I hope it’d not happen).
BTW, in what world of nasty pigs do people vote for TMI. Every time I watch their video I felt like I need to take a silkwood shower.

    1. “I voted for SC not because all of the stuff they claimed about the preventative shit but solely by the look of their models. I enjoyed SC’s healthy, innocent and clean look…”

You must be the very embodiment of ignorance and vanity. Next time you contract an STI from the “healthy, innocent, clean” boy you fuck raw because his doe-eyes render him somehow incapable of transmitting disease, I look forward to hearing about it. And I think it’s worth reminding you that these men are having bareback sex on camera for money…let’s not pretend there’s anything “innocent” about Sean Cody promoting the hell out of a high-schooler getting pounded and seeded on camera. Hot though, isn’t it?

  6. TIM has 25 votes and ranks above 2 other studios? Did people understand the question??? I would think that Sean Cody and Corbin Fisher are 2 studios that are ‘safer’ simply because all their models are exclusives and don’t work elsewhere in the industry (or run rentboy ads) while they’re on contract with those companies. Of course, the models are still vulnerable to STDs based on what they do in their personal lives, but limiting their exposure to the porn and escorting industries must reduce their risk somewhat. Much the same goes for Bel Ami.

  7. Hahaha, I love how with Helix studios the idea paying models (or “desperate twinks”) extra money for barebacking “comes with obviously huge implications for the idea of choice and consent,” whereas J.W. describes Sean Cody using words like “cautious” and describes their scenes as “admittedly pretty fucking hot.”

The bias here is laughable (among the public as well as the author of this article). Most people are ok with SC’s barebacking because they’re pretty guys who look “clean.”

And apparently, 94% of men are more comfortable barebacking with an “attractive” man: http://www.hivplusmag.com/sex-dating/2014/02/21/study-94-percent-gay-men-more-likely-bareback-someone-attractive. As an extension of this study, I’d argue that people are (ignorantly) more comfortable watching attractive men fuck bareback.

At the end of the day, barebacking is barebacking. Even with the accuracy and expediency of recent tests, porn performer’s behavior in their personal lives can never be entirely monitored or accounted for by a studio. I’m really tired of the stigma surrounding barebacking in porn only being applied to certain studios (Helix, TIM, Dark Alley, etc.), mostly because these studios are open to depicting “less than ideal” bodies — positive men or “desperate twinks,” to cite two examples in this article. These are men within our own community who are derided for barebacking, and blamed for perpetuating HIV into the 21st century, while the “jocks” get a free pass because they must be “safe.”

If anything, SC and Corbin Fisher infuriate me with their hypocrisy regarding their shift to bareback. They may not “endorse” bareback sex, but they’re certainly still endorsing a model’s decision to do it on camera for their own studio’s profit.

  8. so a model get tested by a third party source….then goes and gets laid (bb) before shooting their scene …and can get infected anyway before shooting that scene….what do these studios think they are offering in the way of safety? theres no way to trust any model that they wont go get laid bb style, after testing but before shooting the scene…

  9. I think the only way a lot of Sean Cody fans (including me) still enjoy the site is that they believe in the site’s and the models’ professionalism. The same thing goes for Chaosmen for some reason. I stopped caring for Corbin Fisher when Travis retired and the site moved to Las Vegas.

While I am a fan of BelAmi the comment of Duroy rubs me the wrong way, because he fails to mention one little bit: Escorting. C’mon, let’s be real. Most of these guys totally escort on the downlow (most likely offering their services to high end johns) or have official rentboy ads like Jim Kerouac, Dan Arlett, and Harris Hilton. And who could forget the pap pics of Dolph Lambert as part of Elton John’s entourage? And when the money is right these guys will surely bareback with clients who do not bother getting tested to make sure they are STD free before they hook up with their BelAmi trick. And no, I do not believe all these clients are from oh-so mainly HIV free Eastern Bloc.

    1. Duroy’s comment about why it was supposedly safe for him to film bareback still stands as one of the most ignorant and self-absorbed statements about HIV transmission to ever come out of a gay porn studio or website.

  10. Sean Cody does not have any condom scenes anymore. All scenes modern scenes are bareback. Models do not have the option of producing condom porn.

  11. LOL@ the people that voted for TIM.
SC’s latest scene was awful! Jess is hideous! Hideous!
…and the brown lube….who’s idea was it to keep that? gross. It happened in a timtales video as well. Tim even said “look” when tugging on the sheet that was stained with brown lube.

    1. Hearing people criticise others looks is equal parts sad and hilarious. That man is hideous? I feel sorry for people who say stuff like that; how do they survive in real life, day to day? Do they date people? Do they get any action? Do they just look down on everyone else? What do they look like themselves? Are they incredibly attractive which is why they feel they can throw around insults and judgement? Are they ugly themselves, and their insults come from jealousy?

Then reading the words themselves is just amusing. Yeah, hideous, sure he is! :P

  12. The reason that “in the two-plus years since they started bareback shoots we haven’t heard of any cases of models there getting infected” is that even if a performer became infected, it’s virtually impossible to prove that the infection was transmitted during a BB shoot, esp. since every performer in the scene presented clean test results prior to doing the scene.

  13. “Still, they [SeanCody.com] say, they use the RNA test on every model, and in the two-plus years since they started bareback shoots we haven’t heard of any cases of models there getting infected, and I’m pretty sure we would have if it had happened by now since it likely would have led to a public lawsuit and/or an industry-wide moratorium. That said, it could happen anytime, and distraught viewers still write them letters.”

    (1) “I’m pretty sure we would have if it had happened by now since it likely would have led to a public lawsuit…”
There’s no such thing as a private lawsuit.
    (2) The statement that “they say, they use the RNA test on every model” reflects a possible misunderstanding of the process. The studio does not perform ANY testing on ANY performer. Rather, the studio REQUIRES each of the prospective performers to produce current, certified, negative test results for HIV and various other STDs before he will be allowed to do the BB scene. And the tester makes the person read a disclosure about the limitations of testing and sign a release of the tester. And surely the studio has each performer release both the studio AND each of the other performers of any liability for ANY kind of infection that attributable to the BB. So, each performer goes into the BB scene with his eyes wide open–fully apprised of limitations of the testing and the risks of unprotected sex–and knowing that he hasn’t a chance in hell of holding the studio, any of other BB performers, or the tester liable for any infection attributed to the BB.

  14. Obviously Sean Cody. And what’s one proof of that? Jarec Wentworth.

Randy Blue does test their models, even though the studio is completely condom-only. If your test results come back with something, regardless of whether it’s something treatable or not, you do not do duo scenes for them ever. So if Jarec is working for Randy Blue, then he received a clean bill of health according to them and didn’t catch anything over at Sean Cody.

    1. Just because ‘one model’ (albeit one who filmed a lot of scenes) came out of the SC system with a clean bill of health, does not mean that their system is necessarily the best – it only means that it worked for him…

  15. gross..why would anyone take even the slightest chance for a few hundred dollars more..crazy. you can catch enough shit wearing condoms let alone not wearing one…when you are young you dont ever think its going to happen to you ..you feel invincible….so now you can get meds for aids/hiv ones that may or may not give yuo a sunken face, may or may not give you instant diarriha, may or may not shift fat around your body, bloat you, affect your liver, your kidneys…..so many think these drugs are problem free…they arent. and tim says the aids crisis is over? its only over for the ones that are gone
