In an American right-winger nightmare scenario, lawyers for Winston Blackmore and James Oler are arguing that polygamy should now be allowed under Canadian law given the country’s acceptance of gay marriage. Blackmore and Oler are the heads of two warring sects of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints, both based in Bountiful, a town in southeastern British Columbia.
Blackmore has 20 wives and Oler has two, and together they have some 500 or more followers who relocated to Canada after the prosecution of American FLDS leader/pederast Warren Jeffs.
We’re sure they’ve been going apeshit about this on Fox News for the past few days but we clearly haven’t tuned in. Over at 365gay.com they’re arguing yes, maybe polygamy should be legal. And this is the primary reason why Scalia loses his mind every time someone suggests letting gay marriage reach the Supreme Court.
