Remember Beto O’Rourke? That former United States Representative and one-time presidential hopeful that everyone thought was hot? Did you hear that he’s going to send out his nudes if Joe Biden wins Texas tonight?
Well, if you did, just know it’s not going to happen and he never actually said that. It’s just a ridiculous joke that some people are taking so seriously that Snopes is now having to debunk it.
It all started when podcast host and television writer Ira Madison III changed up his profile picture and display name on Twitter so his account resembled Beto’s. He then tweeted out some truly wild promises.
“I’ll drop my nudes if Texas goes blue,” the writer tweeted to his 200,000 followers. “Es grande.”
Twitter apparently didn’t appreciate the parody tweets and suspended Ira’s account, but not before the Beto tweet reached over 4,000 retweets and 16,000 likes. It became so widespread that it prompted Bethania Palma at Snopes to publish an article entitled “No, Beto O’Rourke Didn’t Promise To ‘Drop My Nudes’ If Texas Goes Blue”.
For those who don’t know, impersonating a government official is a pretty common joke that’s done on gay Twitter. Queer comedians Jaboukie Young-White and Cole Escola have both been suspended in the past for changing their names and pictures to match various officials or agencies. Jaboukie was suspended so many times for this bit that Twitter went on to remove the verified blue check from his profile.
So while Ira isn’t the first to make this type of joke, he is the first to tease us with the nudes of a pretty attractive politician. But hey, you never know what will happen tonight. Maybe Beto will be so happy if Texas goes blue that he actually will tweet out some cock shots. Here’s hoping!
