Even if you haven’t been keeping up with it, surely you’ve at least heard of a little show on HBO Max called Heated Rivalry. The Canadian sports romance television show has been making waves around the world for its striking drama, and for some of us, the incredibly steamy sex scenes. Well, its cultural footprint is only getting bigger and bigger, as it managed to snatch the title of the second-highest rated episode ever to air on television, according to IMDb.
Yes, I’m talking about Heated Rivalry Season 1 Episode 5, which came with loads of anticipation from fans. “I’ll Believe in Anything” forces Shane (Hudson Williams), Ilya (Connor Storrie), and Scott (François Arnaud) to face some serious dilemmas that will change their futures forever.
***SPOILERS BELOW***
After Shane and Ilya play on the same team and strengthen their bond, Shane’s girlfriend, Rose (Sophie Nélisse), questions his sexuality. He finally admits his preference for men, specifically his comfort with Ilya. The two men finally commit to one another after witnessing the show-stopping moment when Scott and Kip (Robbie G.K.) share a public kiss after a major championship win. This episode is a major step forward for both relationships.
***END OF SPOILERS***
With that, episode 5 of Heated Rivalry ranked as the second-best episode of television of all time, only behind Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 14 – “Ozymandias.”
What rounds out the top 5? The series finale of Six Feet Under (undoubtedly the best ending to any show), BoJack Horseman Season 5 Episode 15, and Vinland Saga Season 1 Episode 24.
If you keep scrolling, you’ll find episodes from other top shows, such as Game of Thrones and Mr. Robot.
