If Hookers are Hurting in This Economy, We’re Totally Screwed

We’ve discussed already how the recession has caused a bust for some porn concerns and a boom for Manhunt.  According to this lengthy investigative piece in the International Herald Tribune, sex tourism in particular has taken a blow in recent months.  In the Czech Republic, where prostitution occupies a legal gray area and where sex tourism has boomed during the two decades since the fall of Communism, ladies of the night are seeing significantly fewer bachelor parties rolling into town from other EU countries.

The Prague-based streaming-internet brothel Big Sister–where men have sex with hookers for free as long as they agree to do it on a webcam–has seen a 15% drop in web revenue over the last year.  A German pimp quoted in the piece cites a 20% drop in business, and the Mustang Ranch in Reno has had to let go of 30% of their staff.  We’re curious why they didn’t get any Bangkok ladyboys to talk on the record, but maybe business isn’t hurting there because they’ve been keeping costs down.

All we know  is, we expect that business won’t slip for the tranny hookers on Adam’s Block in SF until all forms of government assistance dry up.
