Katy Perry - Daisies (Can't Cancel Pride)

Katy Perry Released A Pride Remix Of Her Gayest Songs And I Don’t Hate It

Pride remixes aren’t just for circuit parties anymore! Your favorite mainstream artists are dropping official Pride remixes and as much as I want to hate these songs… I kinda love them.

Britney Spears has one of the better Pride remixes of late. Last week, the icon dropped a remix for Mood Ring, a bonus track that was only recently released in America and was originally a bonus track from the Japanese version of her latest album, Glory. The remix has a good dance beat and is actually a lot better than the original song, so I encourage you to check it out.

Now Katy Perry is jumping in on the Pride remix hype with Daisies (Can’t Cancel Pride). The song is a remix of Perry’s latest single, Daisies, and it even has a full-length music video to go with it. And we gotta say – the video isn’t half bad. It actually looks more elaborate and expensive than the actual music video for Daisies, so I guess we have to stan.

Once you get halfway through the remix, it starts to act as a megamix of some of Katy’s gayest bops. She starts off with some lyrics from I Kissed A Girl – which she honestly could have kept. Even Perry herself has admitted that she would rewrite that song if she could, so there’s really no reason for it to be in here. If she wanted to be problematic, she should have just gone all in and included some lyrics from her late-2000s homophobic bop Ur So Gay.

After I Kissed A Girl, Perry moves into Peacock, her queerest song, and Walking On Air. That’s right, bitch! Walking on Air! One of her greatest songs of all time. Why she released Birthday and This Is How We Do as singles and not Walking on Air is still a huge mystery, but Walking on Air being in this remix somewhat makes up for it. She then ends the remix with some lines from the iconic Swish Swish.

So while I want to hate these Pride remixes with all of my heart, I actually love them. Yes, these artists are pandering to gay listeners by just adding a club beat to boring pop ballads, but honestly, I’ll take it. Let pop stars wear tacky rainbow clothes and label their songs with “Pride.” Who cares?!

I mean, they really should be donating all their proceeds from these queer remixes to queer causes… but maybe they’ll start doing that during next summer’s round of Pride remixes.

  1. To be fair Katy released some songs in support of the lgbtq during bullying around 2010 along with GAGA, P!nk, and ke$ha.
