Starr, who The Sword wrote about last year when he lived on the street to save up money for surgery to remove the excess skin that resulted from him losing over 100 pounds, launched the website “It Gets Worse” yesterday, and if ever there were an exercise in self-aggrandizement masquerading as self-loathing, this is it.
His opening post:
This new campaign to say that after coming out and getting older, it gets better is a load of horse shit… Stay tuned as I and others show you why. If you have a story of gay bashing, violence, hatred, and especially gay on gay arguing or crimes or violence or pettiness or mean-spirited situations…please email me @ Nick Starr . com your story and I will post it.
Equating “pettiness and “mean-spirited situations” with crime and violence? Is it fair to compare someone being called a stupid bitch to someone being, say, murdered? I don’t want to get in a gay on gay argument with Nick Starr, but, probably not!
Another post on It Gets Worse recycles the negative comments left for Starr on the aforementioned Sword article, while yet another includes an email someone sent his boss in an attempt to get him fired. Dwelling on how much people hated you in the past and providing a forum for even more people to hate you now is, of course, productive. But is Nick Starr really that bad? There’s a difference between being truly awful and only being awful by virtue of the fact that you want people to think that you’re awful.
Doesn’t someone who says something like this deserve, if not guarantee himself, a “worse” life? And if you ignored him, would he still have anything to say?
