The Internet Is Divided Over These Gay Party Cups

If you went to a gay party and were tasked with carrying around a color-coded cup that represented your sexual preferences, would you participate? Would you carry around a red cup to show everyone that you’re a top? A blue cup to announce to the room that you’re a bottom? That’s the question that’s being answered all over Twitter right now as several snapshots of cup tables from gay events have been making their way around the social site.

While these types of parties don’t seem to be anything new, but that hasn’t stopped hoards of Twitter users from recently sharing their thoughts on the controversial cups. One tweeter wrote out that they would “start to speak in impossible riddles and extinct languages if I walked into a party and saw this” while others criticized the party for focusing too much on positions and sex with the cups.

That being said though, many other people have found humor in the cups while sharing which specific color they would grab themselves and even admitting that they would be constantly rotating different colors as the night went on.

Some who have apparently been to the parties pictured even wrote in defense of the cups and basically said that if you’re not interested in having fun with some cups, then stay home! “Sometimes people just like to have fun and we should encourage them.”

So now let’s open up the floor and have you all give us your thoughts on this. Have you been to a party with a cup situation like this? Would you go to a party like this if given the chance? Do you think events like this are weird or do you think Twitter is just overreacting to some gay fun? Sound off in the comments below and let us know all your thoughts!

  1. What about those who are not into anal? Or just homoromantic or asexual? Or what if they’re coupled and not in an open relationship? There are a lot of assumptions here… I don’t have an issue if people want to participate, nothing wrong with self-labelling and self-advertising, but offering a ‘none of the above’, ‘not looking/available’ or ‘none of your damn business’ option would have been nice.

  2. How is this ANY DIFFERENT from “Hanky Code”? Young gays need to learn about the history of their culture before they freak out about this. Hell YEAH, I’d be grabbing that “bottom” cup!

  3. I’ve never been to a party like that. I would go after I checked out what the guys carrying around red cups look like. If I found them attractive I’d definitely stay at the party and carry around a light blue cup.

  4. A thoughtful host would have provided another color for “no comment” and then life could go on…

Also, shouldn’t the dark blue cups have a gigantic hole at the bottom??

    1. That is it. They needed refuse to answer option, and the cups should of been those little cups you get when you ask for a courtesy cup at the fast food places.
For some reason that makes this fun and not an issue in my lack of coffee it’s 0530 brain. :)
(but I still can’t write this without it reading like snark)

  5. Those who are having a fit over the cups and labels, are insecure basket cases! Having a party is about having a good time, even with the supplies used. I am sure those who attended had a laugh at their own expense.
