Steve Zahn Reveals If That Was Actually His Dick On HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’

The fifth episode of the HBO series The White Lotus didn’t deliver the same level of male nudity that it did in the show’s first, second, third, and fourth episodes, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to take a break from doing my weekly update about the show on this blog!

So for this week’s post about the nude-loving miniseries, we’re going to be talking about the truth behind Steve Zahn’s nude scene from the first episode of the series. If you remember correctly, the scene had him wondering if his balls were swollen because of testicular cancer and showing his on-screen wife Connie Britton his oversized orbs for a second opinion. (Spoiler alert: He did not end up having cancer. He just has some big ol’ crotch knockers!)

When the scene originally aired, we said that the nads shown were either the result of some serious prosthetic work or they belonged to a body double. They simply didn’t look real and we never saw those groin melons in the same shot at Steve’s face – so naturally, we were a little suspicious.

Well, it looks like we were correct in our testicular suspicions. In a GQ interview published earlier this week, Steve revealed that the White Lotus sack of nuts that appeared in the show we’re 100% fake. The actor said that while he was offered to show off his actual junk, he decided to go the prosthetic route instead and he actually got to approve his own artificial junk for the show.

Per GQ:

There’s been a lot of talk about that very graphic scene in the first episode. We’re actually seeing a body double wearing a prosthetic, but what did you think when you first read it in the script?

Oh, it made me laugh. I was like, “Oh geez, no, this is crazy.” And I remember asking Mike, “You don’t want full frontal, right?” He’s like, “No, no, we’re going to use a prosthetic.” I was like, “Oh, okay, cool.” And then I had to approve it. “Is this good?” I’m like, “Yeah, it’s fine. Great.”

I was going to ask if you were happy with the final product.

The funny thing is, Mike actually stopped by here. He was driving cross country. We were in the barn and I was taking care of my horse—he just had surgery, so I’m a vet. I said, “You know what, man? I didn’t think at all that that would be a thing.” It never occurred to me that people would go, “Penis!” And Mike was like, “Yeah, I didn’t either. I didn’t even think about it.” And then when it happened, it was like, “Oh right. Of course.” We’re kind of fucked up, aren’t we?

Well, I will say, it’s not something you see on TV a lot.
